lesson objective

Through exploring the work of Toronto artist Katrina Schaman, students will learn about her techniques and processes, observing animals in their natural habitats and understanding landscapes in an almost magical way. Students will learn elements and principles of design to create their own mixed media collage landscapes and animals.

Students will:

Learn the vocabulary of art techniques and practices (collage, mixed media art, landscape)

Explore principles of design, particularly contrast, emphasis, proportion

Learn about a local artist and their art, Arctic animals and winter landscapes

Have an opportunity to explore with material and concepts

Be encouraged to create art in a comfortable and supportive environment

Apply critical thinking skills in their analysis of artwork and the creation of their own artwork
